Pumpkins, Pumpkins!

Fall, Fall, Fall! Let me say for the 5,000th time that I LOVE FALL!
This little baby boy loves Fall too. See his lil jack-o-lantern sleeper?

As y'all know, we adore the Arkansas Razorbacks. Even though we lost on Saturday, Jackson wanted to show love for the Hogs. Woo Pig Sooie!

We went to church this morning and went to our Sunday School class social this afternoon.

Kelli planned the fun event and it was so fun. Jake and Kelli are such sweet friends of ours.
The class met for a couples pumpkin carving contest and chili cook-off.

Carving pumpkins is hard work!

Emily and Cori are so fun!

Ashley and Lucas are so cute! They are expecting their 4th baby in April! We are so excited for them! Look! Another "photo bomber!" :)

Russell is such a great pumpkin carver. He chose a Razorback design. I would have loved to help him, but it was pretty intricate and looked hard. I stick with the simple designs. :)

Kimberly and James. James is an art teacher and he also carved a Razorback pumpkin.

These are awesome Hog pumpkins!
Russell tied for third place and James got 1st place!

Everyone did a great job!

So creative!

There was so much chili. Everyone tasted each pot of chili and voted on which one was the best. It was amazing how much each one tasted so different, but tasty! :) So glad I made the recipe my mom gave me from a family friend years ago. I make it every year. It's a great recipe because it got 2nd place! :)

Our Life Group (Sunday School) class!

I love him!

Ashley and me!
It got pretty chilly outside. Fall is definitely here, y'all!

Lessons on Motherhood So Far

Motherhood has taught me so much in just five and a half months. I thought I would share what I have learned so far about being a mommy. So here are a few things in random order.

On delivering baby:
It's always good to be prepared, but if you have your hopes set high to deliver naturally and end up having a C-section, remember it's OKAY. I wish I had more knowledge about the C-section beforehand, but I didn't. Basically, my advice is, it may not be EXACTLY what you planned.

On feeding baby:
It's not the end of the world if you don't nurse or physically cannot nurse.
I tried to nurse Jackson for about a week before I finally decided to bottle feed. It was definitely a challenge and the most emotional thing. The more I thought about the pros and cons about it all, we resulted to the bottle. It's definitely personal preference. For us, it was so much easier to mix that Similac in bottles, warm it and that's it. :) Jackson is happy and we are happy. That's our goal.

On changing diapers:
Change the diaper QUICK, because the baby will definitely pee on you. Many times. HA! I've learned from experience. Secondly, it has to be said. Blowouts WILL happen! Just laugh it off after baby is changed. HA!
Also, changing Jackson's diaper is good bonding time for us because he looks up at me while I sing songs, recite "five little monkeys" or "five little pumpkins," and make him laugh.

On baby clothes:
Babies grow. Fast. Of course it's a necessity and need to have clothes for newborns, but once Jackson hit three months old, he has been growing like a weed.
All brands vary in sizes. Carter's brand fits different from Little Me, Gerber, etc.

On baby's schedule:
I totally recommend BABY WISE!!! I didn't follow BabyWise until Jackson was a little over two months. He slept in the Fisher-Price Rock 'n Play in our bedroom. He really loved it, but then he kept waking up several times a night, I realized he was eventually going to grow out of it, and we definitely wanted Jackson to get good use out of the crib. He sleeps through the night, which I think every parent rejoices when that happens for the first time. Can I get a "Hallelujah!"

On traveling with baby:
It's obvious that you need plenty of diapers, wipes, and formula for the road. I guess my main advice for traveling is to not rush getting to your destination. Jackson is a very good traveler as far as I know. We have taken him on a few road trips and he has been very happy and sleepy during the trip. I like to pack plastic sacks and plastic Ziploc bags in case we need them.
I will try to update this every few months on my own "lessons on motherhood," but I will say it has been the most joyous five and a half months of my life as a wife and mom. There have been crazy moments, and there have been hard moments, but most of all, it's all been wonderful, special, and so memorable. I never knew how much I would love Jackson until I met him and held him for the very first time. I try to make the most out of every day and that's a big key. Give everything to God and He will help you for sure! :) Happy days!
So...that's it for now, Mamas! :) Most of this info was a helpful reminder for myself, but I hope I helped a little bit. Sometimes it's easy to forget the "obvious" things about having a baby. It's good to be reminded about these things. :)

Jackson Goes to the Pumpkin Patch!

We always go to the same little place in Missouri every Fall to pick out pumpkins. Last year, we told the sweet couple who sells the pumpkins, hay bales, and mums that we were expecting "our little pumpkin, and he would be with us next year!" Well that day came and it was such fun.
We were beyond thrilled to dress Jackson up in his lil jack-o-lantern shirt and jeans for the trip to the pumpkin patch.
The first thing we did was look at the little pumpkins for Jackson. I love his little hand on it. :)

Russell and Jackson matched of course. :) So cute.

Jackson on a pile of "punkins."

Just the three of us!

He really did not know what to think about everything, so he wasn't as alert as he usually is. He was pretty confused. :)

But he did try to eat a little hay. Too funny! Don't worry, we took it from him quickly.

Fall is HERE!!! YAY!

He was pretty tired from the day as you can see here. But he sure did cheer on the Razorbacks during the game. Sad we lost, but they played SO well!

Yes, October has arrived. In the movie, "You've Got Mail," they say, "Don't you just love New York in the fall?" Well, I change that quote and say, "Don't you just love Arkansas in the fall?" It's BEAUTIFUL, not only when the leaves change, but all year round.
Happy Fall, Y'all!

Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, "He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust." Psalm 91:1-2

September Catch Up

I think I still have a blog to update! HA! Again, I have missed blogging and have fallen behind. Here's my September catch up! Oh, and this post has lots of pictures of Jackson! I cannot help it. I adore his smiling face!
I love him in these pj's!

Look at my sweet boy wearing his Peter Rabbit shirt. We LOVE Peter!

I took this picture of him during his "5 month photo shoot." :)

A few weeks ago, Russell and I got to try out the Walmart Pickup Grocery. It's great. You simply make your grocery list online and choose a pick-up time, drive there, and wait for the associate to load the items in your car. How easy is that?

Another highlight of September was getting my Lush order! I have heard awesome things about the bath bombs, bath melts, and more. The first thing I tried was the "Comforter" bar. It was the best thing. I did cut it in five pieces and still had crazy bubbles and pink water! Smelled divine, too!

Russell's parents, Jackie and Ricky came for the weekend a couple of weeks ago. They absolutely loved playing with him. He was so happy to spend time with them.

We were glad to go to lunch at Briar Rose Bakery. It was so good, yet again! :)

A little fuzzy, but here's our lil fam. :)

Of course, Jackson is such a big Razorback fan already! :)

It was my second time to go to Briar Rose bakery and won't be the last. It's one of my newest faves!

Jackie and Ricky kept Jackson for us on Saturday night so we could go on a fun trip to Eureka Springs with our Life Group (Sunday School) class! We saw The Great Passion Play.

Of course, we had to take a fun picture with the girls! They are the sweetest!

This picture is hilarious to me. See my friend, Ashley, the "photo bomber?" Laugh out LOUD! HA!

Here is a pic from the passion play. We really enjoyed it!

Here is Mr. Jackson wearing his Sunday outfit. He seriously melts my heart!

So are y'all glad it's October? It's the best month of the year to me. Get ready to celebrate fall, y'all!

I appeal to you, brothers and sisters, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree with one another in what you say and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be perfectly united in mind and thought. 1 Corinthians 1:10

Celebrating 7 years!

We had a nice anniversary. Jackson and I went to play group with some sweet friends that Monday morning and came back home for the rest of the day. Russell came home from work at lunch. We always love it when he comes home for lunch. :)
That afternoon, he had flowers sent to me! I absolutely love them.

They reminded me of my wedding bouquet and I thought that was too sweet!

We were excited for a date night!

We went to River Grille. It is one of our favorite places to celebrate special occasions.

I had steak. Oh. SO. Good! And yes, I still lost at Weight Watchers this week, by the way. :)

My wonderful friend, Mandy kept Jackson for us while we were gone. Her baby boy, Ezra, got to play with Jackson! So glad Jackson and Ezra are friends. :)

Mandy, Ezra, and Jackson. He was conked out asleep when we got home. Mandy is such a baby whisperer! We were so very thankful that Mandy kept Jackson for us. How special she is to me!

Y'all know I love pictures, videos, preserving memories, etc. So I could not let the day end without looking at pictures from September 8, 2007!  I love my Russell so much. God has certainly blessed me with him. It was a very special day.
